Bucharest’s Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (Baneasa airport) will require consolidation works after its buildings – except the modernized building of the airport’s General Aviation Terminal – were included in the highest seismic risk class 1, the Bucharest National Airport Company said this Monday according to Medifax.
Starting March 25 all the low- cost operators who previously operated from Baneasa will be transferred to the Henri Conada Intenational Airport (Otopeni) as Baneasa will host mainly business flights. In order to implement this reorganization the airport is presently undergoing a rehabilitation process. EUR 2.5 million were invested last year in building a terminal dedicated to business passengers on Baneasa and the airport’s other three buildings will also be modernized, said the authorities.
Baneasa airport’s passenger terminal was declared a historic monument last year.
