If Romania will not absorb all the EU agricultural funds it is being allocated, it will have a hard time negotiating for the 2014-2020 financial allocation, said agriculture minister Stelian Fuia during the Mediafax Talks about Agriculture event last Friday.

“We have huge sums of money allocated by the European Commission and if we will not be capable to absorb them all, it will be very hard so ask for consistent sums for the future 2014-2020 financial allocation,” he explained.

Fuia added that Romania has an absorption rate of 40 percent for agricultural funds which is a good level compared to the government’s overall absorption rate, but is low compared to the EU average.

In 2012 Romania will have to absorb EUR 2.5 billion worth of agricultural funds.
