For the upcoming Business Review Awards Gala, Ramona Jurubita, Country Managing Partner at KPMG in Romania, has been elected by her fellow jury members as President of the Jury Committee, a role in which she will oversee the jury meetings and ensure the qualitative and independent manner of the judging process. To preview the 2024 edition of the Business Review Awards Gala, we sat down with Ramona Jurubita for a testimonial interview in which she talks about the Romanian business scene and her role as member and president of the esteemed jury committee.

What recommendations would you have for the Romanian business environment in 2024?

The business community has been through several challenging years and the best companies have developed resilience and adapability which puts them in a good position to face future difficulties. The global macroeconomic outlook is looking more positive, with inflation now better under control and the prospect of interest rates falling in the US and the eurozone. Moreover, Romania continues to be an attractive destination for investment, with a growing economy and well qualified workforce. Nevertheless, businesses still need to be well prepared to withstand potential negative developments. There is considerable geopolitical uncertainty, with ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and with the disruption to shipping through the Suez Canal posing a threat to global supply chains. Moreover, this is an election year in Romania and many other countries, and this creates uncertainty as to future government economic policies both in our own country and beyond. So the message is that there are many opportunities, but businesses need to remain vigilant and prepared for economic uncertainty.

How do you anticipate the Business Review Awards race to be this year by category, given that 2023 was a complicated year in all respects?

Each category represents an important factor for a successful business, and the uncertain economic climate makes it even more critical that companies should strive for excellence in these fields if they are to remain competitive. So I really hope to see a lot of entries, as this will be a healthy sign that Romanian companies understand the importance of these issues.

What motivates you to be part of this year’s BRA Jury?

Business Review has a long history of providing reliable reporting on business and economic news and also organising events which bring people from leading companies together. The Business Review Awards encourage Romanian businesses to strive for excellence in a spirit of healthy competition, which all benefits the growth of our economy. So it’s a privilege to be part of the jury and hence to be facilitating the development of our country.

What do you see as the added value that your presence on this year’s BRA Jury brings?

As Country Managing Partner of a major consultancy firm which is part of a global network, and which works with clients from a wide range of sectors, I hope that I can bring broad overview of the Romanian business environment as well as detailed knowledge of the operations of many different types of Romanian firm, together with an international dimension.
