BR presents a selection of highlights from this year’s White Night of the Museums event in Bucharest

The National Museum of Art (in picture)

is organizing the White Night in partnership with Green Hours

Visiting hours: 7 pm – 4 am

Two of the museum’s galleries will be open to guests for this period, the National Gallery and the Gallery of European Art. Inside the inner yard of the National Museum of Art, performers such as Trei Parale, Olivier, Khidja and Avan’gard’d will hold concerts. Warm-up sessions will feature DJs Electric Brother, Rusu and Flore. Early in the evening, at 9 pm, Chromossoms will take to the stage. The after-party will be hosted by Green Hours.

Romanian Peasant Museum and Grigore Antipa Natural History Museum

Visiting hours: 6 pm – 4 am

The Romanian Peasant Museum and the Grigore Antipa Natural History Museum have joined forces to create the Labyrinth Museum. Images, films, music and art are all part of the event to be hosted by the two museums in George Enescu Square. The theme of the night is the labyrinth of life and will be a dialog on both the beginnings of the two museums and the way people and animals relate to each other. A multimedia area, a temporary exhibition, activities for children and relaxation areas are among the event’s surprises.

National Museum of History

Visiting hours: 2 pm – 2 am

Historia Viva – Traian’s Column is the headliner at the museum, a project which consists of 3D reconstructions of famous Roman buildings. There will also be a mini photo exhibition telling the story of the building which now houses the museum. The special exhibition this month is the Crown of the Romanian Kings, and, through this event, a documentary called The Romanian Crown.

National Museum of Geology

Visiting hours: 8:30 pm – 1 am

From 6 pm to 8 pm the museum will host a concert featuring Romanian music. Romania’s geological exhibitions will be open for nocturnal perusal. Another exhibition, called Useful and Decorative Rocks, will also be open to visitors. A new room will be inaugurated – the Ludovic Mrazec room. Thin Sections, a temporary photo exhibition by Dan Besliu, will be operational. And the museum will host a sale of crystal items and jewels with precious gems.

George Enescu Museum

(141 Calea Victoriei)

Visiting hours: 9 am – 5 am

Muzix, an event especially devised for this night, will include concerts of traditional and old music. A quintet of musicians will play wind instruments, starting at 10 pm. Fans of bygone music can later enjoy the Anton Pann vocal instrumental band conducted by Constantin Raileanu.

Bellu Museum

(Serban Voda Street 249)

Visiting hours: 7 pm – 2 am

An intriguing event that stands out in the calendar, since it is hosted by the Bellu Cemetery. The Bellu Museum, run by the Administration of Cemeteries and Crematories, offers painting exhibitions, photography exhibitions, classical music recitals and pilgrimage to the graves of the artists buried in the cemetery.

National Museum of Old Maps and Books (39 Londra Street)

Visiting hours: 9 pm – 2 am

The National Museum of Old Maps and Books has opened an exhibition called Crusades in the Middle Ages – European and Oriental Roads Illustrated in Old Maps, which will be available for viewing during the Night of the Museums.

Village Museum

Visiting hours: August 14, 9 am – 2 pm

The Village Museum will not host a Night of the Museums, in order to protect its contents. Instead, there will be a Morning of the Museum. On May 14 visitors can attend a Theater of Shadows (at 10 am), a photography exhibition (11 am), a book launch (at noon), and interactive workshops (10 am – 6pm).
