James Thierree, the grandson of comic actor Charlie Chaplin, will be mixing dance, pantomime and theater in a three-night run in Bucharest. Taking place on April 29, 30 and May 1 at the Bucharest National Theater, Raoul made its debut in London, in October 2009. This is the first time it has been performed in Central and Eastern Europe, on the last leg of a successful world tour.

Raoul, which was inspired by circus shows, brings together chamber music, illusion, dance, pantomime and theater, and has been described as a “surreal explosion of confetti” by London Dance. It tells the story of a mysterious and solitary fallen king, who lives in a self-built tower to escape the demons of the world. Thierree creates a magical, almost dream-like milieu, placing himself alone in the middle of a complex setting in perpetual metamorphosis.

Thierree is a graduate of the Piccollo Theater in Milan, Harvard Theatre School, Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique in Paris and Acting International. An actor, stage director, dancer and acrobat, he grew up among circus performances, and his parents, Victoria (the sister of Geraldine Chaplin) and Jean-Baptiste Thierree, were the founders of the Bonjour Circus. He made his circus debut at the age of four.

Raoul is brought to Bucharest by the French Embassy in Romania and the French Institute in Bucharest. Tickets are on sale in Orange stores and the Eventim network (as well as online, at eventim.ro) and also from the National Theatre of Bucharest box office. There are four price categories: RON 30, RON 50, RON 80 and RON 100.
