UB40aa‚¬a„¢s Ali Campbell comes to Romania for charity concert

British reggae band UB40’s lead singer, Ali Campbell, will perform in Bucharest, at Sala Palatului, on June 16, donating the money collected from the sales of his latest album on the concert day to the benefit of children and young adults with disabilities, have been abandoned or find themselves in financially difficult situations.

The album that Campbell is promoting is entitled “Great British Songs”, and consists in a collection of iconic British pop and rock hits from the sixties and seventies, reinterpreted in Campbell’s well-known reggae style.

The concert is organized by FARA, a charity foundation founded in Romania, which functions under the patronage of HRH Prince Charles, Nicole Kidman and HRH Princess Marina Sturdza. Campbell is known for his involvement in charity efforts throughout the world and he received a special award from the government of Mauritius for his efforts in this sense in 2010. He aided the Mandela Foundation in 2008, recording together with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, one of his most successful UB40 covers, “Many Rivers to Cross”.

In 2008, Campbell decided to leave UB40 in order to pursue a solo career. UB40 formed in 1978 in Birmingham. The band has had over 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, and has also achieved considerable international success. UB40 have sold over 70 million records. “Red Red Wine”, “Kingston Town”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, or “I Got You Babe” are only few of their best knows hits.

The concert will be opened by Romanian band Taxi.
