Carole Bouquet, who starred in over 40 films since 1977, will read from Antonin Artaud’s work at Odeon Theater in Bucharest, on February 11 and 12. What’s more, this weekend, on February 5-6, Elvira Popescu cinema is hosting a retrospective of five of the artist’s best films. The actress will be present for the screening of her first film, Luis Bunuel’s That Obscure Object of Desire, taken when she was only 17. Bouquet was also a Bond girl in 1981, co-starring in the British franchise alongside Roger Moore.

Bouquet will read from “Letters to Genica”, by Antonin Artaud, with Genica being an actress of Romanian origins with whom the author fell madly in love in 1921. “I would like the public to be truly touched by the truth present in these texts, as with all visionary poets, in general. Independent of Artaud’s portrait, who speaks just as well about the theater of his époque, of his illness or dreams, he also evokes love. And when he speaks of love, he resembles each and any one of us,” explains Bouquet.

Carole Bouquet is coming to Romania courtesy of the French Embassy and the French Cultural Institute in Bucharest, as well as the support offered by Odeon Theater.
