The “Romania Unfolds” platform, a project supported by Veolia Romania, has launched the second episode of the first documentary mini-series on sustainability in Romania. It brings to the forefront the subject of inequality reduction and social inclusion, an integral element of Sustainable Development Goal 10 as defined by the United Nations.

The real-life examples in the second episode show us the work of the OilRight social initiative, which collects 5 tonnes of used cooking oil from local households every year, with the help of a total of 8 employees, people with disabilities, who have thus been integrated into an economic activity, as well as contributing to a circular economy project.

At the same time, we also discover the efforts of RoboHub, the most sought-after community of Romanian robotics enthusiasts, and Ability Hub, who have managed to integrate over 400 people with disabilities into the labor market through adapted robotics and digital education courses. Their mission is to reduce inequalities over time, together with the measures adopted, open social dialogue and lead to a sustainable development of Romanian society.

The “Romania Unfolds” platform follows through the mini video documentary series stories from local communities where the key to solving local challenges is based on a sustainable solution. Each episode of the documentary series also captures local progress through in-depth research, quality journalism, and authentic footage capturing a new world in transformation and rise. The documentary aims to demonstrate how communities can become a force for good through sustainable solutions and accessible, high-impact action. Put to good use, they become the true legacy for future generations.

The series started with the first episode discussing the theme: of sustainable cities and communities. The next episodes also capture other themes in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): responsible production and consumption, innovation in industry and infrastructure, and clean water.

In fact, according to the Voluntary National Report on the SDGs 2023, Romania has achieved more than 62% of its 2030 targets. However, the Global Report on Sustainable Development shows that Romania has targets where it is going backward, such as climate action, but also where it is stagnating, such as quality education, clean and affordable energy, responsible production and consumption, or land-based life.

In addition, the “Romania Unfolds” platform also provides access to original editorial content, acting as a main hub for information on successful sustainability initiatives, projects, and practices implemented across Romania.

The Romania Unfolds project is supported by Veolia, a world leader in providing essential services and a champion of green transformation.

“Through this initiative, Veolia contributes to its commitment to become a Champion of Green Transformation by facilitating access to sustainability information and the discovery of sustainable and responsible solutions capable of mediating the impact of today’s challenges, actively contributing to increasing the educational value in the communities in which it operates. Romania Unfolds is a source of access to solutions for actions with a decisive and favorable impact on the environment, but also a bridge to future links between communities, academia, industry, and authorities”, said Mădălin Mihailovici, CEO of Veolia Romania.
