Alexandrion Group, the largest spirits and wine producer and distributor in Romania continued its global strategy for the launch of the first single malt whisky produced in Romania, Carpathian Single Malt, with an event organized in Nicosia (Cyprus), on December 8th.

In the presence of His Excellency, Mr. Dan Mihalache, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus, Dragos Plopeanu, Cyprus Country Manager, Alexandrion Group, Allan Anderson, Whisky Director Alexandrion Group and Master Distiller Carpathian Single Malt, who were speakers at the event, Colin C. Lovering – Global Brand Ambassador Carpathian Single Malt who hosted the event and top management representatives of the Alexandrion Group, “Commandaria”, part of the Greek & Cypriot Wine Cask Collection and also one of the latest expressions of Carpathian Single Malt Whisky (www.carpathian-singlemalt.com ) – was ‘unveiled’ to an illustrious guest list.

Under the stewardship of the highly experienced Master Distiller Allan Anderson, this unique, exquisite and premium product has been developed exclusively for the Cypriot and Greek markets and spearheads the ongoing range of ‘expressions’ now available under the Carpathian Single Malt Whisky portfolio https://www.iconicdrinks.shop/brands/carpathian.html

Dr. Nawaf Salameh, Founding Chairman of the Alexandrion Group stated:

“After a hugely successful commercial launch of Carpathian Single Malt Whisky in Bucharest on the 27th October, we are immensely proud to bring the exclusive expression of “Commandaria” to Nicosia and introduce it to the Cypriot market. I love all the Carpathian Single Malt expressions, but I’m particularly fond of this one due to the fact that I truly believe that we have managed to achieve a perfect melding of Romania’s natural resources with the heritage of Cyprus in creating an exquisite experience for whisky lovers everywhere. “Commandaria” has given us the opportunity to reinforce the age-old link between the peoples of the legendary Carpathian lands and the Mediterranean area, who have maintained trade and cultural connections-material and spiritual-for centuries”.

Allan Anderson, Whisky Director Alexandrion Group and Master Distiller Carpathian Single Malt said:

“Commandaria is a particularly special expression, as I was very conscious of bringing together the oldest produced wine in the world with one of the newest single malt whiskies. Bridging those two significant historical moments, with a quality product that would make both Cypriots and Romanians proud, was my utmost priority.”

The Event

Within the spectacular surroundings of the Royal Hall, the Alexandrion Group brought together an exclusive guest list of diplomats, business partners, media and professionals who all gathered to network, celebrate and sample “Commandaria”.

Also available for invited guests, were a number of other products produced by the Alexandrion Group, these included the wines of the Alexandrion Rhein 1892 Domains and the regal and sparkling wine, Rhein Extra, produced at the Rhein & CIE Azuga Cellars 1892, all served at the two Carpathian Single Malt branded bars. The convivial atmosphere was supported by live jazz music.

Insight into “Commandaria”

With its distinctive blue label and carrying a sweet scent interweaved with a subtle woody and nutty aroma, “Commandaria” truly reflects the fir covered Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. It is from this natural geography that the 200L oak barrels were sourced, once containing the ancient Cyprian Wine “Commandaria”. This has influenced the whisky’s light copper colour adding additional notes of vanilla, raisin and fig, offering the palate a sweet round lingering finish. This expression of Carpathian Single Malt has matured in 53-gallon 1st fill American white oak ex-Kentucky bourbon barrels for three years, before being transferred to the Commandaria barrels.

Romania’s first ever single malt whisky – Carpathian Single Malt – has made waves in the US and UK  the first two stops of the global tour, Romania, where it was commercial launched and several other fairs and exhibitions across the globe. It has already received some excellent feedback from contemporaries. Master Distiller, Mr. Allan Anderson is certain that as the Carpathian Single Malt further matures, “this exquisite whisky will, without doubt, become one of the best in the world”.

“Commandaria” is now available to purchase through the Cavaway shop in Larnaca, part of the Alexandrion Group, and will be gradually available in other shops that are part of the Cavaway distribution network.

“Commandaria” is one of the 9 expressions of the Carpathian Single Malt Whisky range, which is gradually expanding further. The range is comprised of Fetească Neagră and Pinot Noir, which are part of the Romanian wine cask collection, Madeira, Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and Tawny Port, included in the Spanish and Portuguese wine cask collection, Burgundy from the French wine cask collection, Cognac from the Cognac Collection and Commandaria, part of the Greek and Cypriot wine cask collection.
