The 6th edition of the SoNoRo Musikland Festival will take place from July 25 to August 4, offering 13 concerts across Braşov, Sighişoara, and several villages in the Transylvanian Hills, including Cristian, Râşnov, Cincu, Meşendorf, Criţ, and Viscri.

The festival celebrates the cultural heritage of the region through classical music, featuring performances by 70 musicians from 10 countries. Highlights include the opening concert with the Braşov Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Cristian Oroşanu, in Sfântul Ioan Square.

The festival will revisit locations from previous editions and introduce six new venues such as Cristian Cultural Center, Braşov Urban Civilization Museum, and King Charles III’s House in Viscri. Notable performances include pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Bartók, among others. Entry is free for most concerts, with the exception of the opening concert, which requires a ticket.

The opening concert will take place on Thursday, July 25, at 8:00 PM, in Sfântul Ioan Square, together with the Braşov Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Cristian Oroşanu. Sfântul Ioan Square is an urban space restored to the city. Located near the Franciscan Church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, this square has become a real hub of Braşov’s cultural life. Entry will be based on a ticket that can be purchased from the access area, on the evening of the concert.

“A new musical adventure awaits us in this area of Romania, which I consider the Tuscany of Eastern Europe. It seems like yesterday that we arrived in Meşendorf, at the invitation of a good friend who had restored a splendid house with a barn, and I was fascinated by the beauty of the place, the people, and the fortified church in the village, built in early Gothic style. That was when the idea of a festival dedicated to the incredible heritage of the Saxons in Transylvania took root, and since then, five editions of the SoNoRo Musikland Festival have accumulated, which has already gained a solid and balanced identity, with a loyal audience eager to follow us every summer to the concerts in Braşov and the villages on the Transylvanian Hills. (…) I am very excited that in Cincu, in this “museum in the making,” the SoNoRo Musikland concert will take place in the garden between the walls of the fortified church there, which will be open to the public for the first time on this occasion. Also, through the SoNoRo Conac tour, we supported the first classical music concert this year at King Charles III’s House in Viscri, since it was introduced into the tourist circuit. We felt it was natural to return to the King’s House, a few months later, with a SoNoRo Musikland concert. Wonderful things will happen in this edition of the festival, with remarkable musicians who perform on the world’s most important stages; with a consistent and beautiful repertoire; with the already famous sunsets and moonlight concerts,” declares Răzvan Popovici, director of the SoNoRo Musikland Festival.

Where does SoNoRo Musikland Festival takes place

The festival returns this year to several locations from the first editions, such as the Weavers’ Bastion / Artists’ Bastion, Das Fort Boutique, the Sighişoara City Hall Festivity Hall, Criţ Cross in Criţ, Meşendorf Gasthaus, and the fortified church in Meşendorf, but also reaches six new spaces: Cristian Cultural Center, Braşov Urban Civilization Museum, “George Bariţiu” County Library, Saint Bartholomew Evangelical Church, Fuga Lolelor Cincu. Museum in Progress, and King Charles III’s House in Viscri.
