The Australian consulate was inaugurated in Romania on September 22. It is located on 34 E Titu Maiorescu St., Villa 7, Pipera- Voluntari, 077190.

The Honorific Consul of Australia to Bucharest is George Prelea, who has 40 years experience in diplomacy. He was named in this position by the Australian government.

The task of the Australian consul will be to facilitate access of Australian companies on the local market and contact between Romanian and Australian business people.

Prelea’s diplomatic mission will offer consultancy both to Romanian and Australian citizens.

“The high interest of Romanian citizens to obtain tourism and study visas in Australia led to the natural need to re-open the Australian Consulate in Bucharest. There were also various requests from Australian business people who wish to develop businesses in Romania. The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed its interest to initiate and re-start commercial activities in Australia,” said Prelea.
