Shukar Collective, the Romanian group that mixes electro, drum’n’bass, dub, hip-hop, jazz, with traditional Romani music influences, will hold a concert at the The Ark, in Bucharest, on November 27.
The Times UK considers that the group “coheres into something genuinely rich and strange”, while Daily Telegraph, UK ranks Shukar Collective as “an unclassifiable hybrid that is often funny, frequently exciting and sometimes bewildering”. The group, consisting of producers DJ Vasile, Dan Handrabur, VJ Tom, DJ Rolf, along with vocalists Sorinel and Ema Dei have been working on their third album this summer.
For the concert that the group will hold at The Ark, an audio-visual experience is prepared by VJ Tom, mixing footage of the two influences that lie at the basis of the musical project, urban and gypsy culture.
After launching their first album under the British label Riverboat / World Music Network, Shukar Collective are ranked as one of the most important local world-music bands, along with Fanfare Ciocarlia and Taraf De Haidouks.
