The number of employees in Romania’s public sector has been reduced to 1.261 million so far, Prime Minister Emil Boc said at the end of last week on public television. The process is expected to continue throughout 2011, explained Boc.

By the end of 2010, Romania had about 1.27 million public employees, below the limit agreed with the International Monetary Fund, and the restructuring process was set to continue in the fields of administration, internal affaires and public finance.

Last the government announced plans to reduce the number of jobs in the Ministry of Public Finance by 14 percent, from 36,202 to 31,027.
