State wants common infrastructure of electronic communications

A bill that targets the formation of a common infrastructure of electronic communications for the state (ICCES) was submitted for public consultation at the end of last week, following a decision that the Supreme Country Defense Council (CSAT) made on January 25.

The infrastructure will be used for secure exchange of data, information and documents in electronic format within and among public authorities and state institutions as well as for national companies and companies under the authority of the state.

The infrastructure will be built by integrating elements of infrastructure from STS, SNR (Radiocom), Teletrans and Telecomunicatii CFR.

The organism that will coordinate the technical integration of these elements of infrastructure is The Service of Special Telecommunications, which usually coordinates activities in the domain of special telecommunications for public authorities in Romania.

“STS is the only state entity that has the necessary capabilities to carry out this mission, having at the moment the most developed infrastructure of communications with a role in ensuring the communication needs of authorities and public institutions (with about 6,000 locations connected) and also has interconnection points with all major suppliers of services of public communications for all types of services of fixed and mobile communications,” according to the document.
