A yellow alert for hot weather and thermal discomfort has been issued for Bucharest and 21 counties in southern and western Romania starting this Tuesday and until Thursday, the Romanian Meteorological Administration (ANM) announced.
Temperatures are expected to reach on average 37 – 39 degrees and the temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the comfort threshold of 80 units in Bucharest and the following counties: Bihor, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba, Gorj, Mehedinti, Dolj, Valcea, Arges, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Dambovita, Prahova, Ilfov, Buzau, Braila, Ialomita and Calarasi.
The heatwave will also reach central Romania and the southern half of Moldova where in some areas temperatures could go up to 35 – 36 degrees Celsius and the THI will reach 80 units.
