Animal welfare financial aid for pig farms to come from EU funds says agriculture ministry

Newsroom 17/07/2012 | 14:32

Pig farms risk not getting the animal welfare financial support this year given that the 2012 budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) is the lowest in the last 20 years, announced the ministry in a press release.

While MADR does not have the necessary funds to finance the scheme, it has obtained financing from EU funds, it says. Starting July 16, those interested in getting financial support under Measure 215 – ‘Animal welfare payments’ for the swine sector can file their applications.

The funds available under this measure amount to EUR 154.8 million for 2007 – 2013.
