Romanian democrat liberal Sulfina Barbu is the new labor minster replacing Sebastian Lazaroiu who held the position for the past three months. The new appointment was published this morning in the Official Journal and it will come into force after Barbu will take the oath later today.

Prime Minister Emil Boc announced on Friday that he had asked President Traian Basescu to dismiss Lazaroiu and to approve the appointment of Barbu. His request was accepted by the president the same day.

Lazaroiu criticized on several occasions the activity of the ruling Democratic Liberal Party (PDL). Several PDL leaders expressed their disapproval regarding his statements.

Lazaroiu was appointed labor minister in June after having previously served as Basescu’s counselor. Barbu is the president of the PDL Women’s Organization. She is an MP in the Chamber of Deputies. Between 2004 and 2007 she was minister of environment.
