Romania will switch to daylight saving time (DST) tonight, the evening of Saturday towards Sunday. Clocks will be adjusted forward one hour, making 3.00 am 4.00 am.
After clocks are turned forward one hour, the difference between Romania’s official hour and Universal Time will be of three hours. Sunday, March 25th, will be the shortest day of the year, with just 23 hours.
Romania adopted DST in 1979. The DST convention is meant to make optimum use of natural light and reduce artificial lighting during summer hours when the sun rises around 4.30 am and sets at 8.00 pm.
National railway operator CFR Calatori announced that the time change will not affect the trains schedule but small delays may happen for trains traveling between 3.00 am and 4.00 am. The hour change is expected to affect the schedule of 43 InterRegio trains and 41 Regio trains but any delays should be made up for on the trains’ course, CFR announced.
