Liviu Dragnea: Name of new defense minister will be announced on Tuesday

The name of the new defense minister will be known on Tuesday, after the extended meeting of the National Permanent Bureau of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). The announcement was made by PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea in Tebea on Tuesday.

The party will send the proposal for the new minister to the Romanian PM and later to the Romanian president. The proposal will also be presented to the chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) Calin-Popescu Tariceanu, before the BPN meeting, Liviu Dragnea said.

Dragnea denied that there is a crisis at the Minister of National Defense, stating that the interim minister has all prerogatives that come with the position and is free to use them.

Ï do not believe and I do not see the crisis. At the Defense there is an interim minister, it has all prerogatives. On Tueday a new full minister will be proposed, there can’t be a crisis. Not even a financial crisis, because there is enough money at the Minister of Defense: Thursday or Friday they should be ready to make payments to employees,” Dragnea said.

Asked whether he had talked about the proposal for the position of minister of defense with US Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm, the PSD chairman saif he announced the former that the new minister would be appointed on Tuesday.

“I didn’t discuss this proposal, because I do now need to receive approval from any ambassador to appoint a member of the government, but I did tell the ambassador that on Tuesday we will have the BNP and there will be a full minister,” Dragnea said.

On Sunday the PSD chair attended the commemoration of 145 years since the death of revolutionary figure Avram Iancu.
