The Bucharest Municipality (PMB) announced it plans to commission a statue of former US president Ronald Reagan and place it in a central area of the Romanian capital.
„We want to have in Bucharest the statue of US president Ronald Reagan, because he represents a symbol of democracy, of the fight against communism, of respect for human rights, freedom of the press but also of capitalism,” Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea said.
According to the mayor, the monument will be placed în the central area of Bucharest. „I want to reassure all Bucharest citizens that cultural investments are not conducted at the expense of social, infrastructure or healthcare projects,” Firea added. The Romanian capital must develop uniformly, both from a cultural point of view, as well as social and economic,” Firea said.
Ronald Reagan was the 40th President of the United States. By means of his hardline politics towards the Soviet Union during the Cold War, had a decisive contribution to the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, the PMB said.
