Even though Nokia has decided to close down its plant in Cluj, authorities say there are other very important investors interested in the Romanian market.

“I am sorry that in order to face the crisis, the solution for Nokia was to prematurely close down the plant in Jucu locality, part of the Cluj-Napoca metropolitan area. I wish to assure Cluj inhabitants that this radical decision was not motivated by conditions created here for the company but by the dynamics of the market of production of mobile telephony equipment worldwide,” said  Sorin Apostu, mayor of the Cluj-Napoca city.

The mayor said that “he is currently impended by confidentiality clauses” to reveal more but that he will soon announce the entry in Cluj-Napoca of industrial giants in the IT domain.”

The Cluj-Napoca mayor was not the only official to say that Nokia’s place would be taken by other global giants.
The Minister of Communications, Valerian Vreme, also announced that there are other IT&C companies “interested in coming to Romania: Huawei, Dell, ZTE.
Those who came to me, all want to expand their business in Romania, they wish to open development centers. We represent a human resource for them, this is our strong point,” said Vreme.

Vreme previously said that the Ministry of Communications is working on a bill to grant state aid to investors in this field.

Among the companies that may be beneficiaries in this scheme there are IBM, Oracle, Dell and Ericsson, Vreme said at that point.
