The 2016 Microsoft Summit in Bucharest focused on the importance of developing digital strategies in order to remain competitive, while stressing the existing security challenges.

The event covered the topic of digitalisation across industries and provided a venue for the sectors that are undergoing a transformation while adapting new technologies, such as finance, administration, health and retail.

„In order to stay relevant in the next decade and perhaps even longer, companies must develop and implement a digital strategy,” Gabriela Matei, Microsoft Romania General Manager said during the event’s opening speech. „Digital transformation offers at the same time perhaps the biggest business opportunity of this generation, in any field,” she added.

The event’s topic reflects „the urgent need to adopt a new vision on business innovation,” the Microsoft Summit organizers said in a statement. „Cloud services, the new productivity and mobility technologies and data analysis are becoming the main and essential pillars of the activity of a company in the digital age, transforming the processes, products and the way in which we interact within and outside of the company,” the statement read.

„Technology, internet and the new business methods are contesting in real time the current order , so that before we realize it, the old rules are meaningless. But new and extraordinary opportunities are appearing, if one understands the new rules. Suddenly, every type of business, regardless whether we talk about products or services, must become a digital company with a new mentality and a continuous search for new values. Companies that are not ready to innovate are those that will be left behind,” David Rowan, Wired Magazine editor said in his keynote speech.

The event, held at the National Theatre on November 8, gathered over 800 participants.
