UK marketers cash in on Royal Wedding merchandise
A royal wedding is always a grand event, and marketers know that people who love the royals will want to purchase all kinds of products that pay tribute to the occasion. As a result, UK shops are full of special, limited-edition merchandise.
According to Business Standard, consumers are expected to spend between GBP 40 and 70 million on royal wedding-related products.
Besides the typical commemorative mugs, plates, dolls or posters, you’ll also find some funnier examples of items that celebrate the royal wedding, such as:
- A bowl of “Wedding Rings” cereal featuring Harry and Meghan on the box
- Special pork sausages made by Heck which contain “sweet ginger” for Harry’s famous red hair and “American mustard” for Meghan
- Personalised Harry or Meghan jars of marmite (a popular British food spread, a by-product of beer brewing)
- KFC Windsor will sell royal wedding-themed fried chicken buckets, with the company logo in gold (allegedly inspired by Harry’s confession that he proposed to Meghan while they were making a roast chicken)
- A pub in Windsor will offer “Harry & Meghan’s Windsor Knot” pale ale
- Gift store Bags of Love features one-piece lycra women’s swimsuits with Meghan or Harry themes
- Life-sized cardboard cut-outs of the couple
The Legoland theme park in Windsor also revealed its tribute to the royal wedding: a Lego copy of the Windsor Castle, including the members of the royal family in wedding attire. It was made of 39,960 Lego bricks and it took 592 hours to complete.
