World Press Photo photojournalism exhibition, visited by over 3.5 million people every year, gets to Bucharest on May 7, due to Eidos Foundation’s efforts.
5,692 photojournalists and photographers from 131 countries attended the 2014 edition of the WPP competition, the exhibition bringing to the Romanian public the selection of the most valuable documentary photographs from the 97,912 images entered in the competition. This year’s edition also brings a new category, Long Term Projects, which has proven to be very popular since the application process started, gathering 14,583 images.
The winner of the “Picture of the Year 2014” competition, signed by Danish photographer Mads Nissen, will be displayed in Bucharest alongside over 100 photos selected by an independent jury of the competition.
“We brought WPP in Romania with the mission to stimulate Romanians’ interest for photography as an art. Last year over 48,000 people visited the exhibition and we amplified our ambition: this year we expect 100,000 people. We want to help Romanians to make from art consumption, not only photography, a habit,” stated in a release Cristian Movila, Eidos Foundation president.
For the fourth consecutive year, the exhibition, organized by the Eidos Foundation, will be open to public between May 8 and 29 in the University Square.
