Between May 18 and 21, Romanian jazz fans will celebrate 4 days of high quality music, together with tourists coming from around the world for the festival and for the beauty of the city.

Sibiu gets ready to give a warm welcome to its guests attending the festival as the preparations in Piata Mica have already started. Performing artists from different continents are ready to jazz it: the nonconformist De La Purissima and her Spanish band, the beautiful Cuban Yilian Canizares, the Syrians Mozayek Band and many others.

Live shows will also be performed by Romanian artists, such as Accord Vibes, Peter Sarosi & Azara, the effervescent Irina Popa, DJazz & Happy Sins and the already known sextet Jazzapella. The Romanian jazz concerts are part of a project launched by Sibiu Jazz Festival Foundation, “Romanian Jazz Meeting”. This project, unique in Romania, has the purpose to promote Romanian jazz artists internationally through the biggest European jazz platform: Europe Jazz Network. Romanian jazz musicians will sing in the opening of international artists performing on Thursday, 18th of May and Friday,  May 19.

Romanian Jazz Meeting project is the only of its’ kind in Europe that broadcasts live. The performances can be watched via www.sibiujazz.eu, social media channels and www.livestream.com.

120 artists representing 17 countries will come to Sibiu to share good vibes with the public from around the world at the oldest jazz festival in Romania. This week, from Thursday till Sunday, starting 7 p.m. in Piata Mică the audience will be hearing jazzy tunes spiced with oriental, latin and blues flavors. All concerts in Piata Mică have free entrance.

The agendas of all jazz lovers will be also full during the day, as the organizers have planned a touristic and cultural tour for everybody.

Art lovers can take a walk to Turnul Sfatului, which hosts a photography exhibition signed by Tibor Jakab. Part of the “Focus Jazz” project, the photographic show “Jazz Body Sounds” is a perfect synergy between musical instruments and human body lines. The Romanian photographer educated in New York, expresses in his work the love for jazz music and beauty of the female body. Pure pieces of art, Tibor Jakab’s canvases will delight the eyes of the viewer and will bring sweet nostalgia to the most romantic audience.

Also part of the “Focus Jazz” project, “Jazz – Soul and Shape” exhibition will be opened at the UAP Art Gallery Sibiu, located in Piata Mare no 12. The bronze statues created by the artist Eugen Petri embody jazz instrumentalists playing, describing the feelings musicians have during their performance and their unique movements during shows. Considered by art critics the successor of Constantin Brancusi, Eugen Petri, puts his passion for jazz into a strong but soft material such as bronze in an attempt to confer music materiality, if it is possible.

UAP Art Gallery will also host a poster exhibition designed by the graphic artist Stefan Orth. Passionate about jazz music, Stefan Orth has created many posters for Sibiu Jazz Festival starting with the 70’s. This year’s exhibition takes jazz lovers through the festival half of a century history bringing to light graphic representations of the event in the last four decades.

After visiting the exhibitions, the public can take a walk to Piata Mica, to delight their senses at ”Jam Session in the Kitchen”, a delicious show, organized in partnership with www.SavoriUrbane.com. Part of this gastronomic event, Oana Igretiu will prepare the most delicious homemade dishes, bringing old recipes to life. A taste of childhood’s dellies, a fusion of tastes and spices accompanied by quality jazz music, ”Jam Session in the Kitchen” will take place Thursday to Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. in Piata Mică.

And because Sibiu Jazz Festival aims to promote high quality music in the community and constantly looks into the future, the organizers have created “Jazz for Kids”.

At its’ second edition, Jazz for Kids is an interactive and educative project for children between 5 and 14 years old. The pianist Daniela Nicolae will take the kids but also their parents and grandparents on a musical journey through the magical world of Disney Classics. In a fairy tale context, the little ones will be introduced into the wonderful world of jazz where they can play oriental instruments and have lots of fun during the sessions of “Guess the song”.

The project will be hosted at Gong Theater on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20, starting with  7 p.m.
