Kaufland Romania ended 2017 with a turnover of RON 10.09 billion (around EUR 2.2 billion) and maintains its position as a leader on the Romanian retail market. It has become the third strongest company in Romania. In comparison, its competitor Carrefour had net sales of EUR 1.78 billion in 2017, an 18.7 percent growth from 2016.
Kaufland has 119 stores and it has 15,000 employees, 7 percent more than in 2016, and it is the largest private employer in Romania.
Last year, the retailer announced an increase in the minimum wage of its workers to RON 2,800 gross plus meal vouchers.
For 2018, Kaufland doubled its budget for investments in expansion and upgrades, to over EUR 200 million and is preparing to open 10 new stores, including in small towns.
Kaufland entered Romania in 2005 and is part of the German group Schwarz, which also owns the Lidl network in Romania.
