The reason for Bucharest rejecting all Asian cuisine (and Turkish really is Asian) lies in the fact that our dear Romanian host nation believes it is part of Europe. Oh, give me a break!
Europe is a state of mind more than a state of national borders. That means in the REAL Europe, there are good manners, people do not spit in the street, there are no street dogs and street kids, there are standards of courtesy, nobody blasts their car horns when the traffic lights turn green, corruption is not accepted as being normal, and there are no ridiculous nouveau riche medallion men. Get the picture? Romania is not in Europe!
Oh, come on… I am being kind when I say this because I could go much further in my indictment of this city's society, but I will not do so!
But my point is valid.. So along comes Turkish-owned Turkuaz chophouse, offering you the real thing. Will it succeed in this city without being a phoney Italian junk place? I sincerely hope so, because it has a good location, good food and good prices.
