Romanian costume designer Viorica Petrovici was nominated at the Cesar Awards in the “Best costumes” category for La source des femmes, a film directed by Radu Mihaileanu.
The filming took place in a small village in Morocco and the theme approached by Mihaileanu is that of the Muslim woman condition within a small community. Viorica Petrovici had to deal with the outfit of about 100 characters, mostly women. “I spent three months in Morocco in order to try to find what was specific to these women and what to reveal because in fact they were dressed in their everyday clothes. I found one detail for each character: the way to wrap the shawl, a mix between a traditional costume and a contemporary one. I think this was my gain, how I managed to combine items of clothing of a folk world and a contemporary one.”

Viorica Petrovici works for Bucharest National Opera since 1984. She made the costumes for several successful Romanian and international film productions such as Le Concert (directed by Radu Mihaileanu), Tertium non Datur (directed by Lucian Pintilie), Asphalt Tango (directed ny Nae Caranfil).  Recently, she created the costumes for Nabucco 12, an opera production mounted at the Romanian National Opera in Cluj Napoca under the direction of Alexander Hausvater. The 37th Cesar Awards Gala will take place at the Theatre du Chaletet in Paris on February 24, 2012.
