The  paleplithic paintings discovered in the Romanian cave Coliboaia are up to 35 000 years old, according to the Romanian Speleologists Federation.

A team of speleologists have discovered some well conserved paintings inside Coliboaia cave, within the Apuseni Natural Park. The paintings represent animals, including a buffalo, a horse, a feline, one or two bear and rhino heads. Some engravements have also been found. Bear bones were found on the cave floor.

A joint team of French and Romanian specialists reached the cave site in May 2010 and certified the authenticity of the paintings. The paintings belong the the Paleolithic period, Gravettian or Aurignacian (Between 23000 and 35000 years old), according to the Romanian Speleologists Federation. These are the oldest certified art pieces in Central Europe.

The cave paintings are not accessible to the public, as speologists had to dive under a river in order to get to the site.
