P&G campaign supports young heart patients

Newsroom 23/06/2008 | 16:36

The campaign is intended not only to help children with cardiac problems but to educate the public regarding their gravity. In Romania, approximately 1,000 children with cardiac defects are born each year, 900 of whom require surgery in their first year of life.
Only 270 children can be operated upon on average each year at the Institute of Cardio-Vascular Disease and Transplants in Targu Mures. Since there is a sole operating department and only one specialized team, the children are scheduled two or three months in advance. Procter & Gamble donated USD 300,000 to the institute, but the total sum needed to cover the costs of the construction of the surgery is USD 550,000.
