The international religious news agency Romereports.com presented on November 17 the case of several missionary sisters of the La Passione di Gesú order who came to Romania to support a local community. They are based in the remote town of Butea, Iasi County, helping the local community since 1999. Four out of every ten people in the community live below the poverty line.
The documentary also presents the living conditions in Butea. The elderly usually survive on a pension of about USD 120 a month, and do not have electricity, running water, gas or sidewalks. In this village, the missionary sisters of La Passione di Gesú built a home for 25 children and a clinic hosting 42 elders.
About the missionary sisters of La Passione di Gesú
The missionary sisters of La Passione di Gesú are also known as the Passionist, a Roman Catholic religious institute founded by Saint Paul of the Cross with a special emphasis on the Passion of Jesus Christ. Saint Paul of the Cross gathered companions to live together and to proclaim the Gospel of Christ to all. The first name he gave his community was “The Poor of Jesus”. This was to indicate that their lives were to be based on evangelical poverty, which he held to be necessary if they were to observe the other evangelical counsels, to persevere in prayer, and to preach the Word of the Cross in season and out of season. Moreover, he wanted them to live their lives like apostles.
