The project has been developed by National Union of People Affected by HIV/AIDS (UNOPA) with the support of Abbott Laboratories and four mentors Mihaela Schiopu, Cristina Simion, Veronica Savanciuc and Gabriel Hennessey, and aims to support and promote talent and vocation beyond disease, prejudice and discrimination. Promise for the Future 2008 started in August with an event that brought together the young people included in the program and their mentors and will come to an end in December after a series of workshops and other activities that will end with the publication of an experimental book.
A study carried out in July by Gallup at the request of the National Council for Preventing Discrimination on the topic Perceptions and Attitudes of the Romanian Population, revealed that Romanians discriminate against HIV infected people, in the workplace, in school and on public transport. “HIV is not contracted through tolerance,” said Iulian Petre, executive manager of Unopa.
