Last but not least, the project was also carried out close to World Habitat Day, which took place on October 6, meant to draw attention to the fundamental right of each person to have a decent home.
In Romania many families live in unsuitable conditions in poor dwellings, with children bearing the brunt of the suffering. The lack of adequate space for their age and the lack of privacy can have negative effects on their normal development.
So far, over 1,200 families in Romania have been recipients of the programs implemented by Habitat for Humanity. The organization's branch in Cluj has helped 100 families to date and another 100 will be helped with new homes or renovations to their current ones by the end of June 2009.
