EIT Manufacturing and EIT Urban Mobility, communities of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the most important financiers of innovation initiatives in manufacturing and urban mobility, will be present in Brașov, between April 4th and April 7th 2023, for the conference of the only European Digital Innovation Hub in the Center Region in Romania – Future of Innovation Technology European Digital Innovation Hub (FIT EDIH).

The FIT project is co-financed by the European Commission through the Digital Europe programme, as well as by the Romanian Government through the Smart Growth, Digitization and Financial Instruments Operational Programme (POCIDIF), in order to support the digital transformation of SMEs and cities in the Centrer Region.

The launch event will take place In the frame of the INTEK technology exhibition fair.

EIT Manufacturing will be represented in the opening panel of the conference by the director of the European office himself, Mr. Klaus Beetz, as well as by specialists from the European ecosystem of this EIT community. They will discuss the most important technologies that can support the development of industry 4.0 in the Centre Region. Ms. Niki Kousi will open this panel with examples of digital transformation in European regions similar to Centre, while Mr. Sándor Kolumbán, lecturer at Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj Napoca, will explain how he was able to benefit from the opportunities of this innovation ecosystem as the founder of a production start-up.

Mister Traian Urban, CEO of EIT Urban Mobility, and the experts from this European ecosystem will explain how Romanian companies can take advantage of the opportunities created to develop innovation ecosystems in the fields of urban mobility and smart cities from all European countries – especially from less developed regions of Europe – including Romania. Good practices examples from our country will be promoted by the mayor of Alba Iulia, Mr. Gabriel Codru Pleșa, as well as in the panel of the most innovative Romanian start-ups in the smart city / urban mobility sector.

Cities, together with companies that have activities compatible with FIT EDIH’s priorities – industry 4.0, urban mobility, eHealth, trade and tourism – can benefit from development services and support in accessing European funding with the help of the consortium consisting of ICEBERG+, UMFST Tg. Mureș, ULBS Sibiu, CNIPMMR Sibiu, AID Alba Iulia, AMB Brașov, ASIMCOV, AICAR, RO PARDO, Smart Factory Romania, ALT Brașov and NTT Data.

The conference will shed light on the concrete ways in which the participants will be able to benefit from the opportunities offered by FIT EDIH, as well as on the ways in which the new digital innovation hubs in the country will support more local public authorities to adopt smart city technologies. A good opportunity to deepen the opportunities offered by these hubs will be through the presentation of Irina Toma, FIT EDIH coordinator.

“We are witnessing an important shift towards a new operational model based on technologies of the future. Digital Innovation Hubs across Europe aim to help both public institutions and SMEs reduce procurement risk by understanding and testing technologies relevant to them. In a next step, they can learn to identify the right funding and train their employees on how to use it. The big advantage is that all these services are offered in an orchestrated manner and are subsidized through the Digital Europe Programme and POCIDIF. FIT EDIH is the only digital innovation hub dedicated to the Center Region and the fields of Smart City, Manufacturing and eHealth. We invite SMEs to join our community in order to receive the latest information in these fields, considering that we can offer free services to a limited number of beneficiaries” said Ms. Irina Toma, coordinator of the FIT digital innovation hub from ICEBERG+.

Companies eligible for the development services and access to financing offered by FIT EDIH must legally be defined as an SME, have their headquarters or work points in any of the counties of Brașov, Sibiu, Alba, Mureș, Harghita or Covasna, activate in the field of health, production, urban mobility and smart city, tourism or commerce and be a part of the FIT EDIH community.

Registrations for the FIT EDIH launch conference can be made on the hub’s website at https://www.digitalinnovationhub.fit.
