Telemobil (Zapp), which was taken over by Cosmote Romania in 2009, must pay a license tax of  EUR 1 million for the prolongation of its license in the frequency of 450 MHz, according to a government decision.

The license will be prolonged for 1 year, until March 24, 2013.

“The prolongation of the license is made at the request of the operator, and after it expires, ANCOM will evaluate the opportunity of taking the freed spectrum out for sale, depending on the interest of the industry of electronic communications,” as stated in an announcement of the telecom regulator in Romania.

The company received usage rights in 1992. In 2001, it launched mobile telephony services in this frequency using CDMA technology.

In 2009, Cosmote Romania took over Telemobil, which has remained up to this point a separate legal entity and functions as a separate unit with its own clients, interconnection contracts, licenses for the use of radio spectrum and telephone numbers.
