Samsung Q9FN is the name of the flagship tv of the Korean producer at this very moment. It is the most impressive tv set I have seen in the last years, combining the brightness and color of QLED (Quantun Dot Led) with the deep black of OLED.
The tv shows what next-generation picture will be like with a properly hygh dynamic range and 4K Ultra HD resolution. Even more, Samsung price it competitively, not going for the EUR 15,000 or 25,000; it came out ar around RON 15,000 (EUR 3,000) and now it can be found on special offers at RON 10,000. This is a big difference from the past and shows that technology is getting cheaper.
The design of the tv is classic, with a premium-style metal body, not flashy. With no shiny chrome accents or oddly shape feet, the tv tires not to stand out on itself but to merge with the room. Even the cable of 3.35 mm thick, the only one that connects the tv with the setup box that comes with it shows that is not supposed to stand out.
The One Connect box can be placed anywhere and it hosts four HDMI sockets, three USB ports and the Ethernet port.
The Ambient Mode, coming from Samsung ’s Frame TV is like a screen-saver on your wall. Or a picture, in order to show something when the tv is closed. It looks very good, but only if you choose to hang it on a wall, not put it on a stand. Artwork, headlines, a clock or your own photos; anything can be put on as image.
The tv can also connect with your phone after downloading Samsung Connect app into your phone. The phone can serve as a second controller with this app.
This is the first tv that can give very good performance in light or low-light. While usually you have to choose one of the two to, with Samsung latest you can have both. The viewing conditions can be as dim or as bright as you want, no matter if is in daylight or at night.
A great performance for both movies and sport events. And its sometimes better if you turn off the Eco mode of power saving because that is sometimes stopping the tv for better image.
The sound is just as good and you don’t need a soundbar for most of the shows. Of course, if you want extra-bass, using a subwoofer is better, but that is only for movies. Otherwise, the sound is just perfect.
Another best performance comes from the way it connects to the internet with its Samsung SmartThings. You can use the tv as a computer for browsing the web with no problem and the apps that are usually used for that are already installed.
Personally, I am not a fan of to many tv apps, but the way Netflix worked in 4K with the tv was perfect. A good internet connection is all you need for 4k movies. The only down thing is that sometimes the image was blurred while the tv upscaled, but only for a few seconds.
IF you want the best from your tv, Q9f is the answer at this moment. We shall see later on this year Sony ZF9 LCD, but right now it has no opponent.
However, it is not a tv well suited for a small room at 165 cm on diagonal, so if you want to have it in an apartment you will have to put it on the length of the room, not on the width the way we usually put the tv.
And for RON 10,000 you get a good deal.
