Cybersecurity issues, including phishing scams and online theft, have increased significantly over the years. With that, new and innovative technologies are introduced regularly that can help you stay on the safer side.

Of course, many people have suffered because of online theft and data leaks and some are still suffering, it doesn’t mean you should quit using the internet altogether. All you need to do is follow the latest privacy technologies and stay safe when using the internet.

In this article today, we’re going to share with you some of the best ways to protect your online identity. Give it a read and make sure to incorporate the following tips to your internet browsing routine.

Turning on Two-Factor Authentication

Most of the applications these days offer two-factor authentication. The goal of this feature is to increase your cybersecurity. As you know, many people are aware of the hacks to guess the passwords and they usually guess them right. Not to mention, a lot of applications keep your passwords safe, which presents another problem.

Switching on two-factor authentication means nobody will be able to log into the applications you use even if they’re aware of the passwords. When typing in the password, you’ll instantly receive an alert along with an OTP code. Without the OTP code, you won’t be able to log into the app. The same goes for the hacker. The hacker may find a way to crack the password but won’t be able to get the OTP code and you’ll remain safe digitally.

Using a VPN

Another amazing invention is the VPN, an abbreviation for the virtual private network. Though VPNs have been around for quite some time now, they keep getting better with the latest technology. VPNs these days allow you to change your location and automatically hide your IP address.

When your IP address isn’t visible and location is unclear, you remain safe from hackers. Most of them hack into your device using your IP address, so it won’t be wrong to say that VPNs are extremely effective in eliminating the root cause of the problem. All you need to do is look into the latest available VPN options and choose one for yourself. Switch it on every time when you’re using the internet and you’ll be good to go.

Having an Antivirus System in Your Device

One mandatory tool for your device is an antivirus system. A lot of times, it’s not a hacker that directly hacks into your device but a virus or malware. Not to mention, many hackers write and use viruses and malware to hack into your computer or smartphone. Apart from that, phishing scams are also quite common these days. Plus, many phishing emails look as good as real. A lot of people become victims of phishing scams or widespread methods of cyber-attacks every year and it costs them both financially and emotionally.

Having an antivirus system means you’ll remain protected from questionable viruses and malware. Not just that, it will also help filter your emails and online messages. If an email appears to be suspicious, it will alert you right there and then, keeping you safe from phishing scams. Also, there are plenty of antivirus systems available in the market these days, so you won’t have an issue finding the suitable one.

The Final Word…

Besides that, please know that not all tech innovations are good for your online safety. For example, many apps nowadays allow you to save your password for easy login. Although it provides you with convenience and saves time, it can be harmful. Thus, I suggest you must never save passwords into your device and always rely on two-factor authentication.

Moreover, you must not allow applications in your laptop or smartphone to keep a track of your location. Look into their settings and switch off the location mode. It isn’t anything problematic but prevention is always better than the cure. After all, your safety is in your own hands!
