A study by SimilarWeb says that Facebook may be close to losing its place as the second-biggest website in the United States to YouTube, in what SimilarWeb’s Stephen Kraus describes as a “paradigm shift”, Business Insider reports.
Facebook’s monthly visits fell from 8.5 billion in 2016 to 4.7 billion in July, while YouTube has been growing and hit 4.5 billion visits last month. The top ranking website is Google, with 15.2 billion hits.
Facebook has had a tumultuous two weeks, with the biggest one-day drop in share price in Wall Street history, a shareholder proposing that Mark Zuckerberg be fired, as well as new evidence that the platform was used for influencing US politics for the 2018 midterms.
