Urban mobility provider Lime has launched its sharing service in Bucharest and brought over 1,000 electric scooters, which are available in the main areas of the city, near subway stations, parks, public institutions, theaters and museums.

The company aims to provide a real alternative to the way people travel around the city. The new scooters offer a ‘first and last kilometer’ solution – helping to connect with other ways to go to work, meet up with friends or other city roads.

In 2018, according to the Tom Tom Traffic Index, Bucharest climbed two places in the ranking of the busiest cities in the world in terms of road traffic. According to these statistics, the capital has the busiest traffic in Europe, on average, the inhabitants of Bucharest spent 50 percent more time in traffic than usual, more than the residents of Istanbul or Rio de Janeiro. With a Lime electric scooter, the distance between Victoria Square and the Roman Square can be reached in 3 minutes.

“Bucharest is a wonderful city and we are very pleased to launch Lime here, where we know there is a real interest in micro-mobility. We work with the municipality to come up with a concrete solution to some of the difficulties in town, such as traffic jams. Lime Electric Scooters are a pleasant, convenient and intelligent way to reinvent urban life,” said Rebecca Stelea, Lime’s Global Lead of Juicer Community.

How Lime works

To use Lime, the users need to download the app, locate a scooter on the map and unlock it. They need a bank card and be 18 years old. At the end of the journey, users must follow the instructions in the app to complete the journey and take responsibility. For travel with Lime, the unlocking cost is RON 3, and for each travel minute will be added the amount of RONN 0.60. Local Lime teams will be responsible for the maintenance, reloading and placement of the fleet in the city.

The company respects safety and comfort and urges users to wear headphones every time.

The company’s commitment to traffic safety

Lime Trinkets are safe and easy to use. Our #RespectTheRide campaign encourages users to adopt safe driving practices and help ensure road safety for all road users. Thus, we commit to ensure:

  • Traveling responsibly with each trip;
  • Wearing the helmet while traveling;
  • Compliance with all traffic rules and speed limits;
  • The exclusive use of specially designed areas such as roadways and bicycle lanes;
  • Suitable parking away from sidewalks, service ramps and subway stations;
  • Respect for cars, pedestrians and other users.
