Honeywell is shifting its focus from hardware production to software technologies

Honeywell is one of the oldest companies in the world that goes back over 130 years but it managed to change and keep up with technology in order to be a leader in its field. In Romania it is present from over 20 years and it has now over 3,500 employees.

“We are shifting from hardware producer to a software company,” says Shane Tedjarati, president of Global High Growth Regions Honeywell. That means the company is finding more and more ways to use the hardware it already has and it’s now using Internet of Things to boost the Artificial Intelligence that its machines are using.

Connected aircraft, connected building, connected plant and connected worker; this are the four main directions that the company are developing. For example, for connected building it has opened a center in Bucharest less than two years ago and the center is now in charge of several buildings around the world, including Wembley stadium in UK. The center is overseeing all the data gathered from the sensors installed at the stadium and it can announce the manager of the building if something is not in the right parameters.

In the connected aircraft one simple example of what the company does (appart from aircraft engines) is that it’s covering the area over the ocean in order to map the weather. “Over the ocean you can’t put radars, so the pilots don’t know what is out there; we installed small radars in front of every airplane and in this way we can map the weather,” explains Tedjarati.

In Bucharest the company has over 1,500 employees working for these applications and it also has hundreds of open positions every day.

The company also announced the appointment of Ronald Binkofski as president for Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania. Ronald Binkofski is a business leader with over 25 years of experience in business management and digital transformation.

In its new position, Binkofski will co-ordinate Warsaw’s Honeywell development strategy in Central and Eastern Europe, providing customers in the region with the latest on-line technologies that improve safety, security, efficiency and productivity for a large number of industries. Prior to joining the company, Ronald Binkofski acted as Regional Director General for Central Asia at Miscrosoft. Ronald Binkofski will report to Shane Tedjarati, president of Global High Growth Regions Honeywell.

Honeywell technologies

Honeywell technologies, at the top of the IoT revolution, combine hardware with advanced software solutions and data analysis, contributing to a smarter, more connected, safer, and sustainable world. Many of these advanced solutions are designed and designed in Central and Eastern Europe, including by over 1,500 engineers at the Honeywell Technology Solutions Research and Development Center in Brno, Czech Republic.

Regional operations cover all four business sectors of the company – aerospace products and services, building control technologies, housing and industrial premises as well as advanced materials – and include sales, customer support, administrative areas, production and research.

“Honeywell’s technologies are used by people every day, often without them, either facilitating safer air, supporting the e-Commerce area through improved logistics or contributing to greater energy efficiency of buildings,” said Tedjarati. “We have operations in various sectors and a broad portfolio of technologies, which puts us in a unique position to address the many growth opportunities in emerging markets in Central and Eastern Europe. Ronald’s experience in software and business is invaluable as Central and Eastern Europe becomes an increasingly important region in Honeywell’s long-term growth strategy.”

“Central and Eastern Europe is in a period of sustained economic development with significant investments in infrastructure with special security, transport, energy, defense, eCommerce and smart cities requirements,” added Binkofski. As a leader in connected industrial IoT technologies, Honeywell has the ability to deliver safety, security, productivity and energy efficiency across all of these sectors. This is an excellent moment for Honeywell to strengthen its already established presence in Central and Eastern Europe and to provide cutting-edge technology to the benefit of customers and end-users.”

Prior to joining Honeywell, Binkofski led Microsoft operations in Central and Eastern Europe as General Manager for Poland and Romania. Earlier, Ronald Binkofski spent nine years at Software AG, Germany. In his new role, Binkofski oversees Honeywell’s activities in Central and Eastern Europe, a region that employs 11,000 people in about 30 offices in Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Serbia.
