Seven projects involving 18 kindergartens, schools and high schools from 8 counties have received funding of almost 330,000 euros in the 2023 edition of the “Adopt a Project” grant programme, launched and supported by ING Bank Romania. Dedicated this year to educational institutions, it was aimed at initiatives that contribute to reducing the negative impact on the environment and creating sustainable spaces for the students’ activities.

2023 also marks a donation by ING Bank Romania to one of the most voted NGOs in the history of the “Adopt a Project” grant programme, Heart of the Children. The winning NGOs in 2023 are: Moral Compass Association, CSR Nest Association, De-a Arhitectura Association, THE DA VINCI SYSTEM Association, Life Education for All, Hope Empowerment Foundation, Right to the Future Association.

The 7 projects, chosen by an internal ING jury, contribute to the energy efficiency of schools, the improvement of learning spaces on sustainability criteria, the expansion of waste management infrastructure, but also to raising awareness of the importance of the environment.

Specifically, we are talking about the installation of photovoltaic panels in 5 schools in Iasi and Prahova, the installation of LED bulbs with motion sensors and water savers in 4 schools in Cluj or sustainable refurbishment through participatory design in 5 schools in Bucharest, Hunedoara, Suceava and Vaslui.

Furthermore, all 18 schools aim to help support environmental education and encourage both students and their communities to participate in courses, practical activities and excursions to protected natural areas or areas exposed to human impact.

“Education for a more sustainable lifestyle is worth bringing to the attention of those who have the power to change the future: young people. Any initiative that can help make the next generation active supporters of causes that promote a better living environment is welcome. Adopt a Project is a link between sustainability program initiators, communities and ING employees, a space where our colleagues can show their support for projects with a positive impact on the environment, as they have done for the past 10 years. We are glad that Adopt a Project has proven to be a long-lasting program that unites colleagues from all over the bank who want to have a say, support and support civil society” – Misha Ioniță, Human Resources Director at ING Bank Romania.

ING financially supports, with 1.3 million euros, the Children’s Heart Association

This amount will support the expansion of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of the Marie Curie Children’s Hospital in Bucharest and the construction of the new Newborn Intensive Care Unit of the Târgu-Mureș Emergency Clinical Hospital. The project is run by the Children’s Heart Association, whose initiatives have over the years attracted support from employees in the “Adopt a Project” programme, through votes and also in volunteer work for the NGO.

“Every day in Romania, hearts are born that need help to keep beating: children with heart defects, newborns with extremely serious diseases. They all deserve the best treatment conditions, in modern, high-performance wards. The sponsorship we received from ING Bank helps us to carry out the two projects as we conceived them, with maximum attention to every detail. On behalf of the future of these children, on behalf of the medical teams that we are thus helping to do their job in better conditions, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, ING Bank!” – Alexandru Popa, President of the Children’s Heart Association.

The Children’s Heart Association will use these funds for the purchase of the necessary medical equipment, the installation and commissioning of the specialised air-conditioning system in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of the Marie Curie Children’s Hospital in Bucharest and to cover the costs of the construction and infrastructure for three of the 27 treatment stations (individual wards) for newborns in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit of the Târgu-Mureș Emergency County Clinical Hospital.
