On the occasion of June 5th – World Environment Day, BAT Romania launches, as part of the „Choose Responsibly for a Clean City” platform a new campaign aimed at raising awareness that individual gestures can have a significant impact on the way our city looks and on the environment as a whole.

During the campaign, developed in partnership with STB – Bucharest Transport Company, BAT decorates central bus stations in Bucharest similar to a home interior and highlights the importance of protecting the community and the city we live in. The campaign message is “You don`t throw garbage at home. Why would you do it here? ”

“The city is our second home, with its special places and imagery which are part of our individual and the community`s history. Caring for the community lies in simple gestures and responsibility does not involve perfection, but consistency and consideration for the common good. At BAT we are engaged in building A Better Tomorrow™ for our consumers, as well as for the society. Through this campaign, we aim more and more people to become aware of the responsibility of individual choices and the relevance of simple, repetitive gestures and their impact on tomorrow,” states Ileana Dumitru, Legal and Public Relations Director of the Central South Europe Area at BAT.

“It is important to keep the cities clean and the attitude of each of us matters a lot! Therefore, I believe that we must engage together in repeated public awareness actions, regardless of whether we are ordinary citizens, public institutions or private companies, ” said Adrian Criț, General Manager of STB SA.

In 2020, BAT announced ambitious goals to reduce the health impact of its business, to achieve excellence in environmental protection, develop a positive social impact and reiterate its commitment to fair and responsible trade policies. Its targets for reaching the goals include 50 million consumers of its non-combustible products by 2030; achieving carbon neutrality  across its business by 2030 and for its entire value chain by 2050; 100% renewable energy by 2030; increasing the amount of recycled water by 30% by 2025; ensuring 100% of all manufacturing sites have zero waste to landfill by 2025; eliminating unnecessary single-use plastic and making all plastic packaging recyclable by 2025.

The company has already achieved excellent results in reaching its goals towards environmental responsibility. According to the most recent environment, social and governance report (BAT ESG Report 2021*), in 2021 BAT registered a 42.7% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions in 2021 versus the 2017 baseline. Also,  64.4% of the electricity for our operations sites is renewably sourced.
