Locally designed products spread out over city

Fifteen local designers have come together at the Bucharest Design Center to demonstrate through a Bucharest-wide project that Romanian products can compete successfully with international creations. How will they convince the public to buy their products?

When it comes to encouraging a client to purchase a decorative object that is unique or handmade, the key to a truly successful design lies in the creator’s ability to combine style and functionality, making it obvious to the customer how the product can be used and what benefits it delivers. This combination of beauty and utility is on display in several places around Bucharest: cafes and pubs (Pub Energiea, Van Gogh Grand Cafe), bank branches (Unicredit Tiriac Bank), office buildings (Europe House, Opera Center, Bucharest Business Park), advertising agencies (Leo Burnett, IAA), galleries (Galeria 15 Design) and in a residential apartment building (ALIA). Until December 2, visitors are invited to see, touch, compare and also criticize over 70 product designs that seek to emphasize functionality despite their design.

Through this campaign, the Bucharest Design Center wants to promote Romanian product design, presenting an overview of beautiful and original creations which will hopefully make the cut and go on sale in specialized boutiques or stores. This type of exposure was chosen to shift the public perception of the object design gallery to an area of everyday functionality, to convey that object design is not only aesthetic, but also functional.

The designers participating in the Romanian Product Design Exists campaign are: 201 Design Studio (Axteroid – in picture), Alexe Popescu, Anca Fetcu, Anca Trestian & Alina Turdean, Atelier A4, Constantin Alupoaiei – IZZI Design, Dana Bostina & Vlad Bostina – arhiDOT Design, Dragos Motica, Eliza Yokina, Irina Neacsu, Tudor Balanean, Robert Marin, Silva Artis, Silvia Cornea and YaU Concept.
