The US Embassy in Bucharest has employed green solutions in developing its new headquarters. The site will cover 40,000 sqm north of Bucharest, close to the Tunari forest. It will include residential units and offices, as well as retail space. The investment will contribute up to USD 80 million to the Romanian economy, according to data from the US Embassy. The project is being built with subcontractors, which include Bog’Art, Sommering-Mech, Lafarge and Titan Mar. Around 300 people are working on it, most of whom are Romanian.

The new building will be developed using eco-friendly materials and will draw on various technologies, such as those which automatically modify the level of lighting depending on the intensity of natural light. The embassy is hoping to receive a green building certificate for the new construction. Under US policy, all new public buildings should respect energy and environmental design principles.
