ZF R&D Tech Center Romania of Timișoara – part of the global research and development chain of the ZF Group, one of the most important automotive providers worldwide, is present as of this autumn, in the business hub of the Iulius Town mixed-use complex.

The technology developed by ZF has been used at the M8Electro Mahindra Racing monoposto, which competed, during the last years, in the Formula E FIA competitions, a car race contest exclusively dedicated to electric cars.

The Timișoara center of ZF R&D Tech Center Romania includes more than 400 employees, and as of this autumn, 270 engineers of such staff are working in the United Business Center 3 (UBC 3) office building of Iulius Town mixed-use complex for projects that shape the transformation of the global mobility. ZF R&D Tech Center Timișoara separated from the automotive division of the Romanian provider of engineering services, BeeSpeed, and as of January 2019, has been part of ZF, a global technology company which provides systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial technology that render the next mobility generation possible.

ZF R&D Tech Center Timişoara’s new office spaces in UBC 3 cover an area of 2,800 sqm, and the location in Iulius Town mixed-use complex facilitates the employees’ access to a multitude of useful services during and after business hours: more than 450 stores, themed restaurants and cafés, a food court, the largest health& fitness center in Romania, a semi-olympic pool, hypermarket, kindergarten and primary school, event halls, children playgrounds, etc.

The specialists in the engineering hub in west-Romania are competent in the development of steering systems and brake assemblies, as well as electromobility and software. “We are part of a globally visible Group, also featuring similar standards. For us to succeed in having a quick and healthy development, we needed a location that would accommodate as many group requirements as possible, and also meet the needs of our employees, these being the main reasons for our choosing the UBC 3 building in Iulius Town complex. Given our ambitious development plan, we hope to increase our presence and reach a number of 400 employees in UBC 3 in the upcoming two years, by both developing the existing competences, as well as creating new ones locally that would have a regional, and why not, global impact”, dr. Sever Scridon, Managing Director of ZF R&D Tech Center Timișoara said.

ZF is the official technology partner of Mahindra Racing, one of the founding teams of the ABB FIA Formula E championship, that is exclusively dedicated to electric cars. The Mahindra Racing M8Electro monoposto, developed using ZF technology, competed in seasons 5 – 8 of the contests, and used the entire propulsion system provided by the automotive company, including the electric engine, power transmission and power electronics based on silicon carbide.
