Romania Sotheby’s International Realty announces the listing for sale of an exceptional property in the heart of Bucharest. With an impressive history, this property was formerly the residence of the Teodoreanu family, a family of outstanding intellectuals with origins stretching back beyond the 1848 Revolution. With both famous lawyers and engineers with spectacular lives, the Teodoreanu family played a key role in the cultural and literary development of Romania.

The property was the scene of famous moments described in the famous trilogy “La Medeleni“, evocative writings of childhood and adolescence created with talent by Ionel Teodoreanu. Built in 1912, in a period of economic prosperity typical of the Belle Epoque, this building is a cultural testimony to a remarkable period in Romanian history.

The Teodoreanu family’s better-known history begins with Alexandru T. Teodoreanu, son of a priest, who, through diligence, became mayor of Iasi, a prosecutor, and a renowned lawyer. He had three children – Osvald, Laurențiu, and Alexandru. Osvald remained in Iasi and continued the tradition of the legal profession started by his father. Laurențiu and Alexandru continued their career in Bucharest. Laurențiu Teodoreanu, uncle of the prose writer Ionel Teodoreanu, was the director of the Iasi Electricity Plant, and from 1907 took over the management of the Siemens representative office in Bucharest. He became the first engineer character in Romanian literature, being portrayed by IonelTeodoreanu in “La Medeleni” as “Herr Direktor“. Osvald also lived in this residence when he was in Bucharest, and Laurențiu stayed there until he volunteered for the French army in 1915, losing his life shortly before the end of the war.

Each generation of the family included a member named Alexandru, each of whom also played a role in the fate of the estate. The residence was built by Alexandru Teodoreanu, another AlexandruTeodoreanu bought back the property that had left the family ownership in the meantime, and Alexandru Vasiliu sold the property to the current developer who has set out to restore its charm. He is the grandson of the daughter of the late Alexandru Teodoreanu, who proudly bears his name in honour of his grandfather.

Strategically located in the city centre, the building offers the advantage of proximity to the attractions and amenities of the metropolis, including theatres, restaurants, schools, shops and medical facilities, as well as the charming Grădina Icoanei park.

The property is currently undergoing an extensive renovation process with a project to convert the building into 3 luxury apartments. Each of these apartments, a quadruplex in itself, masterfully blends architectural and decorative style with the comforts of modern living.

The apartments’ rooms feature high ceilings, offering a unique sense of space and elegance, while generous windows and characterful skylights bring an atmosphere full of poetry and natural light. Each design element is carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the historic atmosphere of the building, providing a harmony between authenticity and contemporary comfort.

Exceptional finishes reflect meticulous attention to detail and guarantee exceptional durability. The future owner will be able to bring their own style and choice of finishes, giving them the opportunity to customize the space to their preferences.

This property is an oasis of tranquility and beauty amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. Each room invites its occupants to enjoy special moments and create unforgettable memories in a truly remarkable setting.

“The current owner’s initiative is a salutary one, as he not only set out to create a comfortable space for a central residence, but also to preserve the cultural baggage with which this building is endowed. In essence, it is a combination of a lifestyle with a Belle Epoque fragrance and with contemporary living connected to urban life in a special setting and atmosphere” said Monica Barbu, CEO of Romania Sotheby’s International Realty.

Romania Sotheby’s International Realty describes this property as destined to be passed down from generation to generation as a precious family treasure.

Interested parties are invited to contact Sotheby’s Romania for further information and to schedule a personal viewing of this truly unique property.
