In Romania, Lidl has managed DIY chain Kaufland since 2005, when it entered the local market. Last year, Lidl Romania, operated by the German group Schwarz, announced it planned to develop a four-level office building and a 4,000-sqm logistic center in Chiajna, Ilfov county, where the company currently operates in a rented office building. In 2007, the firm announced it planned to open 11 discount-type units in Romania by 2011, following a total investment of EUR 150 million.
The first development was announced for Bistrita county, according to the local authorities. The German company plans to develop a 4,500-sqm unit in the area.
