Sameday, one of the largest players on the local courier market, has opened its new logistics center, located on the Capital Ring Road, near the city of Chitila, following a total investment of EUR 20 million. The logistics center covers an area of 22,000 square meters and has state-of-the-art technologies that shorten shipment sorting times by up to three times, streamlining processing and shipping flows.

The new logistics center will handle 80 percent of the total volume of the company’s shipments at the national level, processing parcels sent by clients from Bucharest-Ilfov and from the South of the country. Every day, over 250 trucks will transit the logistics center to load and unload shipments.

Located on a 100,000 square meter land plot, Sameday’s new logistics center has 106 loading or unloading ramps. The logistics space is divided into three areas: large packages, small and medium sized packages and envelopes, as well as modern spaces for employees.

The logistics center is equipped with two automatic sorting strips that can process up to 25,000 packages per hour together.

Bulk packages up to 50 kg are sorted and automatically sorted on a tape that allows processing 15,000 packages per hour, with a speed of 2.5 meters per second. The tape allows automatic movement, weighing and measuring, and shipments are subsequently directed to the 100 slides.

Small packages and envelopes are automatically sorted on a special system with a capacity of 10,000 shipments per hour.

“We want to make things better, which is why we’ve built a courier logistics system with a completely new vision for the Romanian market, a system where we put the recipient first when making decisions. A first step is the launch of the new logistics center. Delivering as fast as possible, along with meeting the promise of delivery are the most important things for recipients, and to do this we must optimize all processes down to the smallest detail. This is why we’ve invested in completely new software systems for Warehouse Management (WMS) & Transport Management (TMS). These, together with the increase of processing capacity through the new logistics center, brings us closer to our objective of improving the customer experience by fulfilling the promise of delivery,” said Lucian Baltaru, the CEO of Sameday.

The activity of the new Sameday logistics center is supported by 450 employees, who work in three shifts.
