The first multiplex in Baia Mare will open, Cinema City’s ninth investment in Romania.The six-hall cinema will be situated in the center of the town, in the newly opened commercial center Gold Plaza. The multiplex is the first of its kind in the Maramures area, where so far there have only been conventional one-screen cinemas. Up to 15 movies per week can be shown in the multiplex, which will also have digital 3D technology.
With the opening of Cinema City in Baia Mare, the company will extend its number of screens in Romania to 88, with a total of 14,600 seats. Cinema City thereby becomes national market leader for the number of multi-screen cinemas, as well as cinema halls, with 50 percent more than its nearest rival.
Cinema City intends to add two more multiplex cinemas in Braila and Targu Mures to the existing ones in its portfolio, in Bucharest, Pitesti, Iasi, Timisoara, Cluj and Bacau.
UPDATE: The multiplex is inaugurated today, November 5, after a total investment of EUR 4.5 million. The multiplex has 6 cinema halls, may host over 1,100 spectators and has a total surface of 1773 sqm.
