Cineplexx enters Romania market in Shopping City Satu Mare

The Austrian cinema chain Cineplexx is entering the Romanian market via Satu Mare Shopping City. The company is planning to open 8 cinemas with over 50 screens, with a total investment of EUR 25 million.

The Austrian cinema operator has already been included on NEPI Rockastle‘s list of tenants who will occupy space in Satu Mare Shoping City. The next two cinemas in Romania will be open until the end of the next year.

Founded in 1993, based in Vienna, as part of the film distribution company Constantin Film Holding, founded in Austria in 1951, the Cineplexx chain began expanding to Southeast Europe in 2009, entering Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Greece and Kosovo.

Cineplexx has 50 cinemas, of which 44 multiplex with about 300 halls. With about 1,500 employees, the company had last year sales of EUR 140 million euros and approximately 12 million visitors.

Shopping City Satu Mare, the first destination of Cineplexx, is built on an area of ​​about 6 hectares, being the 18th commercial center of NEPI’s Romanian portfolio, with an estimated investment of about EUR 40 million and the opening scheduled for December 6.
